5.0.1 – Updates to the menu

As you might have noticed, the Otto menu has changed in our latest update, v5.0.1,
and there are good reasons behind it.

We, as developers, always strive to make sure that we maintain a continuous dialogue with our customers and that we listen to their needs.
Quite recently there had been some reports that the Otto menu was looking odd or appearing broken in lower screen resolutions.

Although we’re in the year 2016, many users still work with older technology, and we didn’t want to leave them out, if possible. The menu in Otto 5.0 was simply not responsive enough and we weren’t happy with that.

We were confident that we could go even further in terms of responsiveness – and indeed we did. The reworked menu can now be viewed correctly in practically every resolution there is out there.

Our customers voiced their concerns and we listened. However, we didn’t stop there!

While working on the mentioned issue, we went ahead and took things a step further.
The menu is now fully compatible with Otto’s newly introduced permissions system.

In practical terms, this means that you’re now able to toggle menu item visibility based on user roles. Menu items that shouldn’t accessible by a certain user role aren’t shown any longer. Another positive effect of this is an even cleaner UI.

Below is an example of how the menu looks in 1100px width resolution, showing what column to click in order to hide items from the menu.
